a passage from Ezra: A Mother's Portrait by Stella Elliston:

When I asked my mom recently how it was for her when Ezra was born she said, "I was heartbroken when it happened, Stella, so sad for you, but then when I saw him, I fell in love with the little guy. And seeing the two of you together, how you were with him and how you handled him...that was something marvelous. He and I were connected, too. I spoke to Ezra a lot when I came to Massachusetts to visit. And they were long visits, every autumn. We talked about a lot of things."

I asked what she said to him, and her reply was, "Now, that's between the two of us." My mom has Ezra's picture on her dresser and she tells me that she still talks to him all the time.
