Christine has participated in the prestigious juried "LaQuinta Art Fair" in Palm Springs, California. In 1998 Christine was invited to teach at the Imperial Valley Stroke Survivor's Club in El Centro, California. While working with stroke patients, she developed patience and a creative approach to teaching. Her inspiring response to life's challenges and the blank canvas are at the core of her teaching; as well as that
all-important ingredient in
life -- humor! For the past six years she has been commissioned privately to paint several portraits and landscapes. Her sometimes bold and sometimes delicate strokes and use of color seem to capture the essence of her subjects and provide a truly artistic experience for the viewer. She delights the soul with her work. Currently her work has been very well received at "The Gallery" in Columbus, Ohio.
Christine Athans Spiropoulous began her love affair with drawing and painting during her high school years. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio. She then married and began a family. While she was raising her four children, she filled their household with endless crafts and painting projects. At the age of 40, Christine was stricken with a massive stroke leaving her paralyzed on her right side. She began the long road to reclaiming her life with unwavering determination and inner strength. She resumed her position in front of the easel now with the left hand and soon discovered that her passion and commitment to painting offered a doorway into healing, self-discovery and aliveness.
Christine is currently a member of the Shadow Mt. Palette Club in Palm Desert, California and a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Christine's paintings have been donated and auctioned for the AIDS Foundation of the Eisenhower Children's Center and for the Greek Orthodox Church of Palm Desert, California to aid in their fundraising efforts. She has privately studied with Volenka Stancia, an internationally known artist who has been associated with such well-known artists as Picasso and Salvador Dali.
There are two painters Christine has studied with extensively whom she would consider her mentors. They have inspired and guided her work using their great skill and genius. The first is Raphael Maniage who operated a gallery in the Philippines for 20 years and now resides in Palm Desert, California. His work is widely recognized and loved. He is predominantly a portrait painter. Also, Keith Ward has been instrumental in Christine's career. He is internationally known and best known for his creation of that all American symbol "Elsie the cow."
